Or maybe the season that has gotten the Reds 11 games above .500

The game is a game of failure, this board knows it because it dwells on it

    Clutch!

(Doesn't make that OPS any better though.)

Then you are removing one of the better RBI's bats from an RBI slot in the lineup. That means more RBI chances for Robinson and Cozart.

That is why moving guys within a lineup doesn't really change overall run production. What matters is who is in the lineup.

Actually the OPS is a bit below average, but I'll give him extra credit to league average for clutch and defense.

111 more plate appearances over the course of the season between hitting second and hitting 8th.

Do you really think it doesn't make a difference?

So, name the second basemen that you take OVER BP....multiple right...since he is league average!

Exactly. The problem is not so much that he's trying to develop "the kid". It's that he think he's "a kid" who needs to be developed still. Every player is constantly focused on getting better. But a manager should be more focused on who he is right now when it comes to making out his lineup each day.

Batting 2nd instead of 7th isn't going to turn Cozart in to a guy with a .330+ OBP.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

First, that adds up to 5 runs, if Cozart and Paul/Robinson stay at the same production level.

My argument is that those numbers are so close, and there is just as good a chance, if not better, that Cozart will out produce Paul/Robinson, that we don't know what difference it really will make.

In the abstract, it's worth around 5 runs over the course of the season. In reality, it's too close to know.
