If this game stays close, the Reds might need a closer.

    Oh, the intrigue.

As long as he's consistent about it, I've got ZERO problems with that. It's an erratic zone that drives me nuts.

    KKKKKKKKK

Well, he re-discovered his release point I'd say. :O)

Latos at 70 pitches. 14 for balls.

2-1 reds heading to the bottom of the 6th.

Low strike to Phillips avoids the walk. Weird that the ump is calling that pitch a strike.

I agree. That pitch is noticeably low (about 3" lower than a usual bottom of the zone) and disturbingly consistent.

Okay, that zone seems to be sinking by the inning now.

...and it comes back, again. A pitch that looks to cross at the ankles is called a strike.

I don't think Gallardo believed that was a strike to Bruce.

Bruce stinging the ball tonight. Out to Morgan. 2 down.

As for the zone, some of the credit should go to both catchers. They're both framing pitches VERY well. It "shouldn't" affect the zone...but it does.

Maldonado is setting up with his glove at Rolen's shins

Some of these umpires really impact the game. Reds should have two baserunners here on walks. Instead, two outs. Rolen up.
