    Bedbugs

    Making a comeback, big time:

For reasons still unknown, bedbugs really seem to like the state of Ohio. The problem is so dire in Cincinnati that some people with infested apartments have resorted to sleeping on the streets.

They're a problem in a lot places, including NY and California. From what I've heard, the problem started in places like NYC, LA and San Francisco, where they were brought to hotels by international travelers. It's been an epidemic for years. Ohio is only the latest on the list of states having to deal with the problem.

These things are nasty to deal with. My grandparents had them and it took a while to get rid of them. The only way that you truly can kill them is by using extreme heat. They tried having them exterminated but they came back with a vengeance. The extermination can't kill the larva while the extreme heat kills everything.

How extreme? I don't want to burn down my house for a few nasty bugs.
What if this is as good as it gets?

A guy I know from high school lives in a cheap apartment in Cincinnati and has bedbugs as of the last week.

The mental stress from these things would be tremendous I would imagine. You want to feel safe when you're sleeping.

They have a company who comes out and does it. I think its up to 125+. It won't destroy anything but they recommend taking pictures off the wall and getting candles and other things that will melt out of the house.

And they aren't a few nasty bugs. They are a ton of nasty bugs that continue to reproduce over and over again. They live off of carbon dioxide and blood so you usually find them wherever you spend a lot of your time. This is normally the bed or perhaps the living room by a chair you sit in. The old saying "don't let the bedbugs bite" is apt because you normally find them at the head of your bed and you they will bite you when you are sleeping.

    Random bedbug fact:
All bedbugs mate by traumatic insemination.[1][19] Because the female has no genital opening, the male pierces her abdomen with his hypodermic genitalia and ejaculates into the body cavity. Especially desperate males sometimes mistake other males for females and fatally wound the latter in the abdomen.[20]

I saw online today that bedbugs have been found in The Empire State Building.

Used to be handled with a ddt based pesticide. They are now resilient to it.
