The Annual Baseball Christmas Thread - 2009

I thought I'd reprise something I did here last Christmas, a thread dealing with the baseball items Santa put under your tree.

For me this year, the big item was the complete Ken Burns Baseball documentary. To say the least, I was dumbfounded as I've always thought it was overpriced. But my wife and daughter got themselves and deal and now I have the DVD's to watch during the bleak winter months.

I also got a new Reds t-shirt from my wife too. And our daughter got my wife and me a "Professor Pathfinder's Baseball Travel Map," showing the location of every baseball franchise, both ML and minor, independent and organized, plus other baseball places of interest. For years, we've said we're going to take a baseball roadtrip. Now we have a map!

I forgot too, my son gave me a copy of "Underrated Reds, The Story of the 1939-1940 Cincinnati Reds" by Leo Bradley a professor at Xavier (and a member of SABR).

Merry Christmas to all. Lets here from others.

But here, we'd understand that's a great gift!

My brother got me the MLB Front Office Manager game for PS3.

Nephew gave me Bill James handbook.

Wife lets me log on to RedZone between Christmas parties.
I have a love-hate relationship with Albert Pujols. Mostly hate.

Joe Posnanski's THE MACHINE and a nice collection of 1950s Reds cards from Bowman. My favorites: the final edition (1955) with the player photographs placed inside a color TV set. There's Joe Nuxhall staring back at me now, looking mighty fine.

The only Reds thing I got this year was a 2010 Reds calendar but I got my mom a picture of the Big Red Machine (framed it for her basement which is sports themed) and a Votto t-shirt from when I was at Redsfest and both gifts went over very well.
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

Re: The Annual Baseball Christmas Thread - 2009

I just purchased "The Machine" from Walmart online with a gift card I received.

A vicarious gift I got was watching one of my twin sons play with baseball cards all day. His mom bought him a three ring binder and some display sheets and a few packs of cards. It was basically the only toy he played with all day. I'm so proud
