In Boston, a total of two seasons, Bay regressed in the department of batting average. He hit .274/.380/.534. The biggest problem was injuries. Bay played in 151 games in 2009. Not bad, but not great.
I kind of lost interest in reading after that.

It's a good Plan B if things fall through with Ludwick IMO. Also, it's good leverage to use against Ludwick's agent. "Hey, we're about ready to sign Jason Bay on the cheap as our LF. You better accept our deal ASAP."

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

No Thanks. His tenure at the Mets was awful, and it can't be entirely excused to injury IMO. He's a shell of his former self, 34 yrs old, and not getting any younger. Pass.

I don't have any strong feelings one way or another, but wouldn't those words have applied to Ryan Ludwick last off-season (substitute Padres for Mets)?
Exactly. The point of a guy like that is to get him on the cheap. Ludwick's going to be mildly expensive and it's a shaky bet that he'll repeat his 2012 performance. So maybe Bay could be next year's Ludwick, or at least he wouldn't cost that much if he were mildly productive and sharing the job with Paul and Heisey.

Ludwick (in Petco for most of the time) was a good bit better in 10 and 11 than Bay was in 11 and 12. I'm not ruling Bay out, but keep that in mind when attempting a Ludwick comp

Pass. Bay is toast. I think if the Mets had any hope of Bay improving with moved in fences at Citi they wouldn't have released him. Bay has been trending down for a couple of years and I don't know if he can even play serviceable OF anymore.
