    Robin Roberts R.I.P.

Robin Roberts died today at 83 years young. He was one of greatest Phillie pitchers ever and one of the best in the NL during the 1950's.

Interesting that Roberts gave up more HR's (505) than any pitcher in baseball history.

Robin Roberts coached Chris Welsh when both were at South Florida; I am sure Chris will have plenty of Roberts stories in his upcoming broadcasts, he has always spoken very highly of Robin Roberts in the past.

Ah, yes, Robin Roberts, one of the great ones, no doubt.

I'll always remember the game he pitched against the Reds at Shibe Park in the early 50s. Bobby Adams lead off the game with a homer and that was the only hit they had all night. A possibility here is that Adams was the only guy to reach base, I just can't remember for sure. Maybe I'll check that out later, unless someone beats me to the punch.

Roberts allowed lots of homers because he was always around the plate. Great control.

Yeah. A lot of those HRs were solo shots.

56 years ago next week, good memory, now I don't feel so odd with my own memories of games from 38-40 years ago.

We have lost so many of the great players from the era of black and white TV.... and my childhood.
