Trade Leake this week. His trade value will never be higher than this morning!

Why are people saying Leake offers stability and is less likely to get injured than Latos? I just don't think there's anything real to back that up.

Leake isn't the best pitcher of the bunch. He's the Reds 4th best starting pitcher, and he might be 5th by the end of the year (hell he might be 6th if you include Stephenson). There's nothing wrong with that, either. Good pitcher, really nice guy to have in your rotation.

The infallible free agent princing toy suggests 2 yr/$16M if he hit the market today. Be forewarned....snark directed at the IFAPT has resulted in great embarrassment for a great many.

Probably because Latos is currently on the DL with an injury to his pitching elbow.

he could be the best of the bunch because he propably pitch longer than those other guys.

he could be arroyo 2.0 with better results... I like to see him in a reds uniform!

I would bet the farm that Latos pitches more major league innings than Leake.

Stop saying Leake is like Arroyo because neither throw hard. There are plenty of soft tossers who have blown their arm out. Arroyo is a freak and has nothing to do with Leake.

And I hope/think the Reds will keep Leake around because he's a productive player who won't break the bank. Doesn't mean he won't get hurt, though.

Mike Leake is the first "scrappy" pitcher the Reds have had in awhile, everyone knows what "scrappy" gets you in Cincinnati, press, adulation and eventually anger when "scrappy" loses it's 'S'.

He's not scrappy, though. Dude completely skipped the minors and has the pure talent to be an above average pitcher and a competent hitter in major leagues. He's oozing with God given talent. He's a freak athletically.

Yea, I do not see how Leake is scrappy. He has been getting good results, of course fans are going to support him.

Scrappy is not being the BMOC, scrappy is being smaller than the tree trunks on the staff, scrappy is being derided for the success one has obtained.

    Scrappy isn't always David Eckstein

Re: Mike Leake, Best of the Bunch?

Leake and Arroyo are similar in that they do not appear to be high effort throwers.

But they are very different pitchers. Leake is a ground ball pitcher and Arroyo is not.

They throw different pitches, and Arroyo seems more deceptive changing speeds at this stage.

Very different, but hopefully share the durability factor.

Dude completely pitched almost 400 innings in college. It's not accurate to argue the notion that he skipped the minors confers what it would if say, a high schooler skipped the minors. He put in his minor league time in an Arizone State uniform.

The point to the thread is - Leake's overall numbers could end up being better, period. All factors included. He's underrated because he doesn't have a power arm or blow people away, so therefore he doesn't stick out or he's not who you think of when you think of top pitchers. It's bottom line - when all their careers are over - Leake could end up have better numbers than all of them.
