Can Homer win 20 games?

I think this is the year he puts it all together, I feel it in my big gut.

If not 20 what kind of numbers do you project?

Re: Can Homer win 20 games?

I hate projecting wins for a pitcher because it is largely out of their control. But, I think he will be darn good with an ERA around 3.50.

16, and I base that upon nothing. With another no hitter.

Re: Can Homer win 20 games?

He won me over the second half of last year. The light went on and he was dominant. He got stronger as the season went on.

Anything is possible.

I think the Reds will win 20+ of the games he starts, but couldn't care less whether Homer or another pitcher gets credited with the W.

Anybody can do anything.

Will he? Probably not.

I think the Reds will get MULTIPLE 20 game winners and Homer will be one of them.

Easy now. If they stay healthy the staff might have a couple of 18 game winners. I'd be thrilled with 3 winning 16+ games, but without looking it up, I can't remember the last time a team had MULTIPLE 20 game winners.

The dominant staff of my lifetime (and according to ESPN, any lifetime) was the Braves staff of Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Millwood, Negale, and IIRC there weren't even two 20 game winners there, but I sure could be wrong about that.

No doubt somebody on here knows immediately the last team with 2 20 game winners?

Looks like it was Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson in 2002. Incidentally, they did it in 2001, as well.

What do you think-- Cueto and Latos as the next Schilling and Johnson? It's fun to dream I suppose

I won't predict it, but I think it is a plausible scenario.

They weren't the last to do it, but Dave Stewart and Bob Welch both won 20 (27 for Welch, IIRC) in 1990.

...And then The Reds promptly dispatched them big-time in the WS.

Re: Can Homer win 20 games?

Can he? Yes, he could. He showed the stuff to be a good enough pitcher to pull it off last year. So did Cueto and Latos, which shows (as has been pointed out before) that the probability of it happening is pretty low.

Will he? Only one way to find out - and the season can't start soon enough!

My memory sure ain't what it used to be, but I fondly remember that, especially given that the other 3 living in my quad-plex out here, at the time, were all from the Bay Area and kept telling me that eventually, the Reds would get their comeuppance. They were sure that was the case when Eric the Red went out.
