At least he is looking..
Hmm could we see a Willingham/Buatista/Stanton/Headley/Morse type or a lesser cheaper option bat like Kearns/Denorfia/Byrd type??

You guys can take Ty Wigginton off the Cardinals for a years supply of Skyline Chili.
Goes to show the lack of major league quality hitters around the league when guys like Wigginton can get a two year contract. If you look at the roster of all major league teams they are filled with guys who can't hit, and even solid teams like the Cards and the Reds aren't immune from it.
Walt's m.o. is to reach out, see what's out there, put the trade idea in the mind of possible trading partner GM's, and then sit back and see who comes back to him weeks down the road.
How many times have you heard Walt say, this trade was basically put together months ago, but both parties just now decided to go with it.
That's how he operates.

I think the only thing in common b/t Walt's realistic targets and RZ dreams is the fact that they hit RH.

I disagree. I think Rios, Willingham, and Bautista are realistic options if their teams continue to bottomfeed.
Off the top of my head, I think Rios is signed through either 2014 or '15. Same with Bautista - pretty sure '15 though. And I believe Willingham is simply signed through 2014. If those teams sent ca$h, I could see it happening.
I also think Ethier would be available for the right price. I saw on a MLBTR Live Chat a few weeks ago that one of the staffers felt the Dodgers would trade him + 40% of his salary. He's signed through 2017 with approx. $75MM remaining on his contract. If the Dodgers eat 40% of that, it'd remain a 4.5yr/$45MM deal, which isn't TERRIBLE, but he's no spring chicken, and there is also a $17.5MM vesting option in 2018, which would suck.
If you could talk the Dodgers into eating 50-60%, I'd start to listen. I think he'd have a resurgence hitting in GABP behind Votto.

Are we reading the same article?
Translation: if something comes our way that knocks our socks off, we'll listen. But we're really just trying to wait things out while our guys get healthy.Reds general manager Walt Jocketty is not beating the bushes for a right-
handed batter on the trade market to fill the void, however.
“We’ve looked at it,” Jocketty said on Tuesday. “There is really nobody out there that would make much of a difference. We’re just biding our time to see what happens.”
For every action there is an equal and opposite criticism.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.
I think the point is that Wat generally makes moves that aren't predicted here on Redszone. I don't remember anyone on here predicting the Latos trade as just one instance. Fantasy baseball has made everyone think they can play GM and that trading is easy. How much payroll flexibility do the Reds have to add Buatista or Rios? It flies in the face of reality to think that the Jays/Twins/Sox are going to trade their star players, plus cash, to another team. It simply isn't going to happen.
About the only thing I consistently see from Jockety is that he doesn't forecast he moves before he makes them.
It is also a reflection of the effect of the 2 wild card system. So many teams still have the appearance of being in the race that a trade at this time would be awful PR and would be harmful to the spirit of their teams. Once the trading partner drops out it is easier to pull the trigger.
When Walt talks of a right handed hitter, I don't think he means somebody like Bautista.
The Reds have Ludwick. He's their right handed hitter. Walt is likely looking for a stop gap, maybe a platoon guy, someone who can play off the bench when Ludwick returns.
I don't envision a huge trade, just somebody healthier and better than Heisey. If nobody is available, he'll wait for Heisey and see how that works out in a platoon with XMan.
