Which SP would you take

Categories are: IP, W, L, SV, BB, K, ERA, WHIP

Which SP would you take out of this group and why?

1. Pedro Martinez
2. Ben Sheets
3. Jason Schmidt
4. Roy Oswalt
5. Curt Schilling

Above is the order I would choose them in. Wanting to get others opinions on this.

C'mon. Nobody wants to share what order they'd pick these SP's?

Pedro and Sheets are definitely 1-2. Oswalt has had past injury trouble, Schilling will miss Opening Day and Schmidt has thrown a LOT of innings the past few seasons, so they all are somewhat of a gamble to get hurt, along with Pedro.

I'd go either Pedro/Sheets, followed by Schilling, Schmidt and Oswalt.

Sheets/Schmidt would be my Co-No. 1. Pedro 3 with Oswalt 4 and Schilling 5.

If Sheets was on, say Chicago instead of Milwaukee last year, he'd have won the Cy Young.

I actually think Pedro, Sheets, and Schmidt are all relatively close. With Schmidt and Pedro having the edge over Sheets in IP, and Sheets having the edge (slightly) in K's.

Sheets will be nails this year. He won't get Wins, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had a Cy Young type year. Scmidt plays in a nice park for pitchers, but if Bonds is out for any length of time, how will that affect his win total?

Sheets-- Young and improving on an underrated team. Could post Triple Crown type numbers on another team.

Schilling-- IP is a key, plus he's on a winning team.

Oswalt-- Injury history makes him a gamble. Talent does not.

Martinez-- See Oswalt. Add 10 years to his arm. 10 hard years.

Schmidt-- Great pitcher's park, no offense behind him if Bonds is hurt for more than a week or two and everyone on his team is thisclose to AARP membership.

Re: Which SP would you take

I'd probably take Sheets first just because he's coming off the best year* and seems as likely as any of the others to have another really good one. But it's a really close call. I'd probably be most leery of Schilling -- at his age and with his ankle, he's the least likely to pitch in good health all year, IMO -- and Oswalt, whose peak is just slightly below the others, again IMO.

* Wins excepted, but Sheets was unlucky in that regard last year even relative to his team. You have eight pitching categories, which lessens the relative impact of wins, and given their crapshoot nature I'd go for the guy who I thought would be the biggest horse in the other categories and let the wins come out as they may.
