Tired of Grande
He seems like a good guy but he is not want I want in an announcer for the Reds. He seems to be a cheerleader for any team but the Reds. It sickened me to hear him making excuse for Carlos Z. when Kearns was hit following Dunn's homer last night. If anyone in the Reds organization needs to be purged George Grande is the first in line.

Re: Tired of Grande
I have contributed to every post about Grande. I'm afraid he has a lifetime contract with the Reds, or so it seems. Grande firmly believes he has to talk NON STOP during the game. And ever place the Reds play we have to hear about that team's stadium plans. I could go on and on, but I will spare the readers of my post the details.

I have no qualms about Grande. He is a good guy....he is far better than any of the WGN or TNT schmucks.

Re: Tired of Grande
Grande seems like a super nice guy. I do get tired of his "aw shucks" act, however. You can tune into the middle of an 11-1 or 5-5 game, and get absolutely no feel for how the game is going from his tone. He's always happy, it seems, and that can be real annoying when the Reds are getting torched.
But, the men who announce baseball games is such a small part of the experience. I am surprised by how much time we spend discussing them.

Re: Tired of Grande
He should make himself more of a "small part" of the game instead of feeling the need to talk constantly and never have any dead air. You don't need constant chatter on a TV broadcast...

Re: Tired of Grande
My favorite Grande-ism is when a player comes up with a nice catch (like Jr's last night) and he spastically yells "HE GOT IT, HE GOT IT!!!!"
Sometimes he even does that on a routine catch.

Re: Tired of Grande
If I have learned anything from having the MLB Extra Innings package the past 2+ seasons, it's that the Reds play-by-play TV man is one of the worst in the business. And it's not really even close...

True, but that's like comparing whose fart smells the worst. It's all crappy, just some are more crappy than others.

George Grande can't carry Skip Carey's Microphone, I'm not a Braves fan, but I know good baseball annoucing and Skip Carey is way better at it than George, who says friends and family more than he does on base perecentage or slugging percentage.

Re: Tired of Grande
I'm alright with Grande overall, but the one thing that always gets me is when he says...
Well you know John Doe's story, he .....
If you tell us that we already know John Doe's story, then why does he always continue to retell us John Doe's story again?
Oh and I don't like all the Jim Edmunds comparisons. It wouldn't bug me so much if I didn't feel like half of Jim Edmund's "great catches" were catches that were actually pretty routine, that Jim Edmund's adds some flair to them to make it seem like he made a really tought play.

Or the infamous... "get 'em on, get 'em over, get' em in." Hear that at least 3 times per game!
I don't mind George. I am sure he is a really nice guy. He definitely talks way too much, but I am so used to it that it no longer fazes me. Complimenting the other team does not bother me. George seems like a true baseball fan. Better than a homer announcer any day of the week.

Re: Tired of Grande
I'm always amused by Grande's total inability to judge whether a ball off the hitter's bat is a routine fly ball for an out or a homerun.
Also, am I the only one that notices when Welsh is trying to make an intelligent point, but Grande interrupts with a completely wrong comment about a baseball situation? Instantly Welsh becomes silent almost as if he is forcing himself to be professional and not tell George how it really is.
