I'm a fan of old school punk as well as screamo/emo and whatever else they might call it. Bands like Brand New and Taking Back Sunday might still be too pop-ish for me, but they are good at their craft and thats all that matters.
I won't lie. I've got serious man-love for Brand New, My Favorite Weapon was in my cd player throughout high school, Deja Entendu throughout college, and now The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me... that album is amazing.

I tend to agree with AP Magazine, they labeled Brand New as america's Radiohead.

The song Jesus..with lyrics like

"What did you do those three days you were dead? I do believe this is going to last longer than the weekend." I can see why.

Re: What am I listening to?

I'll have to check out the new Vanderslice album. I've been a fan for a long time. Are there any MK Ultra fans here?

Me too. Plus, it just seems wrong to go digital with those albums. I was always a fan of Sin After Sin. It's got a few tracks I could do without, but "Here Come the Tears" and "Dissident Aggressor" are pure gold. It's the album where they began to serve notice that they had something new to bring to the game (namely twin guitar fury).

Re: What am I listening to?

Just got home from Austin Texas. Spent 350 bones on records.

Pretty much bought up every Joe Tex record at Antone's, found all kindsa stuff at Waterloo, found out Sound Exchange no longer exists.

Currently, my turntable is burning up because of a band called The Exploding Hearts. I found out that most of the band was killed in a car accident in Oregon. It's a real shame, because that was one of the best power pop records I've ever heard. I can't believe I'd never heard of them.
