Woman sells forehead for ad space

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117...-13762,00.html

A US mother had the name of a casino permanently tattooed on her forehead after auctioning off advertising space on her head to pay for her son's school fees, she said.
Karolyne Smith, 30, turned her head into a permanent billboard after a large online casino offered her $US10,000 ($13,120) to indelibly emblazon its name on her face.

"I really want to do this," said Smith. "To everyone else, it seems like a stupid thing to do. To me, $US10,000 is like $US1 million.

"I only live once, and I'm doing it for my son. It's a small sacrifice to build a better future for my son," she said in a statement issued by the casino company GoldenPalace.com.

Ms Smith, who said she would put the money towards sending her son Brady to a private school, said she did not take the decision lightly, discussing it for more than three weeks with her boyfriend Jeremy Williams.

The gaming company, which has a history of outrageous advertising stunts, won the full frontal ad in an auction on eBay that drew 27,000 hits and 1000 watchers, it said.

"I think this kind of advertising will become increasingly popular as time goes on," GoldenPalace.com chief executive Richard Rowe said.

"Conventional forms of marketing just don't cut it anymore. To get people's attention, you have to stand out from the crowd," he said.

In addition to meeting Ms Smith's $US10,000 asking price at auction, the gaming firm said it had also given her another $US5000 for her trouble.

They have a picture of her in today's Dayton Daily News. The tattoo is not small.... and of course not attractive.

There sure are some stupid people in this world.

I was thinking about this the other day. I'm surprised people don't sell ad space on their cars.

I am sure a lot of men have more space on that forehead to sell than they had when they finished high school...

One of the first things I've always done after buying a car is to remove all the ads the car dealership stuck on the car. If the dealership wants its name on my car, it can pay me for the privilege.

There is a lot of vacant square footage in that general area.

You might be able to retire.

Yeah, but most of them arent stupid enough to have it tattooed.... and for only $10,000? She should be checked out to see if she is mentally stable.

Re: Woman sells forehead for ad space

Everyone's bashing the woman like she's mentally unstable, and this is what she's doing with the money:

Quote:
Ms Smith, who said she would put the money towards sending her son Brady to a private school
That seems pretty incredibly noble to me, that's she's sacrificing her dignity to try to make a better life for her child.

Keep calling her insane though.

Evidently you know her personally? Or you believe everything you read? I wonder if the father/husband is saving money for her son's education. They forgot to mention him in the article.

I really don't know. I know one thing... there are scholarships, a loan from a bank, she could have saved some every week for the last 11 years, etc, etc. I know one more thing... walking around with a Golden Casino dot com thing tattooed on your forehead looks really stupid. Just my opinion though. Have you seen her picture yet?

How long until she makes money be belittling herself on Jerry Springer, Oprah, Montel, etc, etc? I wonder if the kid will really get that special education. If so, I hope he learns more about budgeting and finances than his "big hearted" mom.
