Re: Worst Song of the 80's....

I actually knew Billy Ray Cyrus when he played the bars in my hometown of Portsmouth. I always thought he was "OK" for local talent. I was floored the first time I heard he had a #1 record. But over the years I have come to like him. He was a decent enough guy before he made it big. Then I think he had an ego problem, from what i see now he has come back down to earth. Hell his TV show "Doc" has been on for several seasons.

Re: Worst Song of the 80's....

Back to the topic at hand...I actually love 80's muisc...But I suppose anything from WINGER makes the Do not play list with me.

I actually liked "Whoever is in new England" maybe because I had a simlar experience..affairs don't always kill a marriage but sure don't help! Opps off topic again! Ok another one that comes to mind is "Stray cat Strut"

I actually like most of his music, particularly the stuff he writes himself. I did pretty much agree with Travis Tritt about the whole "Achy Breaky" thing though.

Kind of a strange thing, I remember hearing that among Billy Ray's defenders at the time was Springsteen, who played the song in some of his concerts.

Re: Worst Song of the 80's....

U2 "I will follow" from the Boy album(1980). After seeing them live in the early 80's and experiencing a crowd of thousand being encouraged by Bono to scream at the top of their voices "If you walkaway, I will follow", I had a dramatic change of opinion on this band. This band is very creepy. Here are the words to this U2 classic and decide for yourself:

I was on the outside, when you said
You said you needed me.
I was looking at myself, I was blind
I could not see.

A boy tries hard to be a man,
His mother takes him by his hand,
If he stops to think he starts to cry.
Oh why?

If you walkaway, walkaway
I walkaway, walkaway - I will follow.

I was on the inside
when they pulled the four walls down.
I was looking through the window.
I was lost, I am found.

Walkaway, Walkaway.
I walkaway, walkaway - I will follow.
If you walkaway, walkaway,
I walkaway, walkaway - I will follow.

(Your eyes make a circle,
I see you when I go in there)
Your eyes, your eyes.

If you walkaway, walkaway
I walkaway, walkaway - I will follow

I will follow
I will follow...

While it is difficult to argue with "We Built This City," I'd like to nominate Steve Miller's "Abracadabra."

However, there was a man and woman team who did remakes of "Free Bird" and a Frampton song ("Baby I love Your Way? I'm not sure) who should have been jailed for murder on the spot.
I believe that would be Will to Power.
They then covered "I'm Not in Love," (10cc?) with a new lead singer and then they were never heard from again. Thank heavens.

Swinging? If that's what you meant I think that was an early 80s song and it did blow.

Re: Worst Song of the 80's....

I'd assumed that was it. Charlotte Johnson and the porch swing.

Actually, though I thought that song was awful, I eventually grew to like John Anderson, who sang it (mostly while playing his stuff as a DJ).

I've never let nasal singing put me off.
