Casey Trade Discussion
So which trade rumor do you want to see come true involving Sean Casey:
Casey to Boston for RHP Bronson Arroyo and lst-3rd baseman Kevin Youklis?
Casey to Pittsburgh for either RHP Kip Wells, LHP Mark Redman or RHP Josh Fogg?

Re: Casey Trade Rumors
I still prefer the Pirates deal the best. Wells can be our 4th starter and he's a free agent after the year if he stinks up the joint. It gives us payroll flexability to sign our younger guys.

Re: Casey Trade Rumors
The impression that I got is that a trade with the Red Sox would be Casey for Arroyo OR Youklis - that'd be a no brainer if we could get both, but I don't see it happening.

Re: Casey Trade Rumors
I would see if we couldn't twist Pittsburgh's arm enough to get one of those highly thought of young arms they have if we agreed to pay a portion of Casey's salary. I'd do Wells or Redman if we weren't sending them any money but they don't excite me much.
I'd also do Casey for Arroyo.

Re: Casey Trade Rumors
Casey to Boston for Shoppach and DelCarmen is one I would like.
It is a no brainer to trade Casey and Pena and move Jr to 1st and find a CF.

Interesting how nobody's raising the point of not trading Casey to a division rival like what we've seen with Kearns and/or Pena.

Speaks volumes doesn't it?
I pray they just make any deal for Casey.
I still say Dunn at 1B, a super glove at SS and FeLo at 2B with AK, WMP and JR in the OF is the way to go foreward.

I think primarily because of the age factor. Casey is getting a little long in the tooth while those other guys would be around to launch baseballs into the Ohio River for years and years to come. Not that Casey could do that even if he hit one to the warning track, walked out there and picked the ball up and hit it again.

No on Fogg or Redman (and if you're talking Fogg, shout NO as loud as you can). I have questions about Wells, but maybe. He may be worth taking a chance on. I agree with Boss Hog though, that if you could get both players from Boston rather than just one, that's the deal.

Seems pretty obvious doesn't it? We'll see if OB thinks the same way.

Re: Casey Trade Rumors
A couple of items posted on Rotoworld this afternoon, one from a Boston-area newspaper and the other from one in the Pittsburgh area, have me wondering if the Reds-Pirates talks have broken off...
The Red Sox are reportedly talking to the Pirates about a trade involving Trot Nixon for either Kip Wells or Mark Redman.
Nixon for Wells might not be a terrible gamble. Redman would be. The Red Sox should be able to do better in either case. Nixon figures to remain injury prone, but he's still quite a force against right-handed pitching.
Source: Hartford Courant
The Pirates have made an offer to free agent J.T. Snow, according to the Beaver County Times.
Just the player to turn around the franchise. If Snow is the best they can do for a one-year stopgap, they might as well stick with Brad Eldred.

Re: Casey Trade Rumors
Come on folks, this is DanO we are talking about ... absolutely NOTHING major is going to happen. The big event for the week will be the Reds losing players in the Rule 5 draft.

I make the deal simply to get out from under Casey's salary...
But, I'll pass on Kip Wells generally improving the Reds rotation. His OPS against was .796 last year, 6.5 K/9, 1.33 K/BB -- ERA 5.09
At those numbers, you're better off just throwing Matt Belisle in the rotation and hoping more experience yields better results from the .796 OPS against, 6.2 K/9, 2.27 K/BB and 4.41 ERA he had going.
