If There Was One Pitcher To Build A Rotation Around
If there was a pitcher to build a rotation around for this team, who would that be?

Not bad WOY but there aren't too many knuckleball pitchers around today.

Hard to argue with Santana. My #2 is Zambrano.

Factoring in youth, health, ability, and proven success, it would be hard to take anyone over Santana.
My top 5 would include Willis, Felix Hernandez, Peavy, and Oswalt. Honorable mentions to Prior, Buehrle, Harden, Zambrano and Beckett. <edited b/c I forgot Zambrano> Last edited by RedsManRick; 12-28-2005 at 02:07 PM. |

Re: If There Was One Pitcher To Build A Rotation Around
Hate to buck the trend...(yea right) but if I'm 'building' around a pitcher he's going to need TONS of experience. A pitcher who's been everywhere and done everything there is to do in this game and still has some left in the tank. I'd go with a Clemens, Martinez, Smoltz, or Schilling.
I'd start with Roger Clemens and build around him with Johan Santana, Ben Sheets, and Dontrelle Willis. I'd round out the rotation with either Jake Peavy or Rich Harden although I'd be very tempted for my 5th starter to go with potential like Felix Hernandez or Scott Kazmir. Well, that's my two cents.

Jack Bien.....oh wait, your not talking about fictional OOTP online leagues....
Ok then, I would have a hard time choosing either Santana, or Willis.

I'd have to go with Santana as well. I would also consider Peavey and Kazmir. I think Kaz will be a huge stud when he gets those walks under control and beefs up a bit. The kid is only 21.
Santana Peavey Kazmir
