Actually, if Jr. wants to be traded, you can be sure we will get a #1 pitcher out of it, or two. Jr. left Seattle with a year left on his contract, he now has a very CHEAP long term deal. The Reds could get more than ever for Jr. now.

though i do think junior probably enjoyed the atmosphere in the clubhouse in seattle better than here (no one ever backstabbed him there with silly stories about jokes made in the clubhouse), there was still a lot of bad blood between him and Gillick and bad blood between him and the fans (especially the loonies who threatened to kill him). But anyway, please let us know what is said in the interview...

All we know from what TC has said is that it's about Junior, it's not good news and the local media may not pick up on it.If it were a trade demand, it would be headlining ESPN. Whatever it is, it was probably said in a moment of despair. Yes, I think it will blow over.

Junior is one of the few players who can immediately increase attendance in your park. Plus he is currently signed to one of the sweetest long-term contracts ever put on paper (from an organizational standpoint). During the life of that contract, he will probably chase the Aaron (or Bonds) all-time home run record. There is not a player in all of baseball I would trade him for...but if we're talking 2... Say a Josh Beckett and a Brad Penny?... Hmmmm...now you've got me thinking.

sorry scorp, but why would Florida trade two stud pitchers making nothing for a 32 year old making a lot of money when a) They already have a comparable centerfielder in Wilson b)they are not going to take on an 8 year contract when they don't know whats going to happen to their franchise next year c) Junior unfortunately now has "potential clubhouse problem" label thanks to the immature ex-Reds...

That is the funniest thing I have read in a long time. Let me repeat it for those who missed it the first two readthroughs. "They already have a comparable centerfielder in Wilson" Preston Wilson is not even in the same galaxy as Griff Jr. And as far as b) I strongly doubt Loria would have left the Expos to take over the Marlins if he was going to get contracted. I think he wants to own a team. That team actually needs a big bat, Jr. might go an awful long way towards getting a new stadium down there and he is on a sweetheart deal. I think he would be extremely interested in Jr, in fact maybe even enough to trade us Penny and Castillo for him. If they resign floyd and had Floyd, Jr. and Miller as their 3,4,5 hitters, that pitching would have all the run support they needed to be contenders. So don't count them out. |

Guys,
Jr can say "trade me to Florida (or whatever) or I'm going to retire". No one is going to do Bowden any favors. If Jr wants out, you can bet his team of choice will hold the Reds hostage, just like we did to Seattle. I hope Jr doesn't want to be traded though. Despite the opinion of some on this board, dumping Jr and Larkin is not going to make us a better team, even if we can spend all their salaries on other players.

They couldn't have Floyd, Jr, and Millar batting 3-4-5 because Jr has to hit third. It would have to be Jr, someone else, someone else hitting 3-4-5

Am I reading this wrong or are we being told that something big and not particularly good is up with Jr., but that we might never hear about it?
If it's something we'll never see and that the local media might not even notice (not that they're the sharpest tools in the shed, but you'd think they'd catch something obvious), then how bad can it be?
