Erik Bedard
I have mentioned this guy before and with the Orioles acquiring Kris Benson from the Mets, they might consider trading Bedard in the right deal for an outfielder, which is real weak at the moment.
So is LHP Erik Bedard a pitcher that the Reds should key on in a deal involving Kearns. If not, then what pitcher should they be targeting while revamping the starting rotation?

Re: Erik Bedard
From what I understand, you're not going to get Bedard without giving up Dunn (and some have said not even then). I'd love to have Bedard, but I don't think Kearns will come close to doing it, and I don't think he's close to being worth Dunn, even if the Reds were looking to trade Dunn (which they shouldn't be.)
I'd definitely say he's the type of pitcher they should be looking for, though. Baltimore seems to be overvaluing him a little.

Re: Erik Bedard
Dunn > Bedard.
Bedard's top comp on Baseball reference's similar pitchers section is Dave Williams. Why did he miss the 2003 season? Is he always hurt? He tanked last season after he came off of the DL.

Re: Erik Bedard
Don't trade Dunn for maybes...only for sure things.
Kearns works though.

Re: Erik Bedard
There aren't even a lot of sure things that I'd trade him for.
And if the report is true and the O's wouldn't take less than Dunn for Bedard, cross them off the list and look elsewhere.

Re: Erik Bedard
Bedard is ok, but he isn't really not the kind of pitcher the Reds need IMO. I just really don't see much difference between him and Dave Williams to be honest. And the Reds really shouldn't have a rotation that includes Claussen, Williams, and Bedard. That would be insane IMO.

Re: Erik Bedard
Bedard K's more guys but give up more basehits. I just don't think they are that different. Willams is also slightly worse with the longball.

Re: Erik Bedard
If that Kearns for Westbrook deal is still out there on the table, would Castanelli give Kullman the ok to pull the trigger?

Re: Erik Bedard
I can't remember why I liked Bedard the last time his name was brought up. The numbers don't look terribly promising.

Re: Erik Bedard
New Orioles' pitching coach Leo Mazzone may turn Bedard into the next Tom Glavine.

Re: Erik Bedard
Quote:
Erik Bedard Minor League Numbers: 233.0 IP 7.15 H/9IP 3.28 BB/9IP 10.31 K/9IP 0.19 HR/9IP His MLB K rate has been excellent (7.95 K/9IP), his HR rate solid (0.74 HR/9IP). Bedard's issue last season was that he'd get into spots where he'd suddenly lose command, walk a batter or two, and give up the big Inning. But that wasn't as big an issue as it was in 2004 and he significantly decreased his BB rate. Bedard's got the goods to be a long-term front-line MLB starter. If he's at all available and healthy (the caveat), I'd try to move him on in pronto.

Re: Erik Bedard
I'm pretty sure he was mentioned in some trade rumors with the Phillies regarding Abreu. However, there is a big difference between Abreu and Kearns. If Bedard is available, it will take more than Kearns to get him.

Re: Erik Bedard
I likely was looking at the minor league numbers.
