CNNSI's 10 breakout pitchers for '06. Obviously, no reds.

Verducci's obsession with Wins is quaintly reminiscent of the 1970's. Gustavo Chacin has a better chance to post an ERA over 5 than to repeat his slightly above-average performance from last season.

Hardly an adventurous list, mostly comprised of guys who've already broken out.

Because the Reds did so poorly last year on the pitching front, the always-a-year-behind press naturally figures them to suck this coming year, too. Despite the fact that several of the Reds' pitchers are set to improve considerably more than just regression-to-the-mean stuff.

Word up. What a pointless list - don't fall off the trunk, Verducci.

I especially like Verducci's breakdown on Bonderman. I guess he won't break down again this year b/c Tom says so.

his definition of breakout is 15 wins or more for the first time in their career?

I think Harang might qualify this year

Not with this rule...

....But this is an exercise in trying to find young pitchers who can influence a pennant race, not discovering the next John Patterson, a breakout pitcher of another kind...

He wants guys that win 15 games and influence a pennent race. It is hard to imagine the Reds being in a pennent race next season.

I think next year is the year we see the All American Boy, Jack Armstrong, put it together.

is it more likely to see the Marlins in a pennant race than the Reds? If not, then why is "King Felix" on this list?

ESPNs 5 pitchers 24 and under who will be Cy Young contenders for years to come.

Harden, Hernandez, Willis, Duke and Kazmir(should have been a Red).
