Krivsky's signings

First off I will say that I am glad the Reds hired Krivsky, and wish they would have signed him 3 years ago. In the main thread Matt700wlw posted

Quote:
While with the Twins Krivsky assisted Ryan in negotiating contracts for Major League players, including salary arbitration cases and multi-year deals. He helped negotiate multi-year contracts for Twins stars Torii Hunter, Joe Mays, Corey Koskie, Jacque Jones and Shannon Stewart. Krivsky also worked on Brad Radke’s first multi-year deal.
I figured this needed its own thread. Here are the multi-year deals he supposedly worked on:

Shannon Stewart : 3 years, 18 million (Stewart will make $5.5 million in 2004, $6 million in 2005 and $6.5 million in 2006).

Torii Hunter : 4-year, $32 million (due $10,750,000 in 2006 and Hunter's contract contains a $12,000,000 team option for 2007 with a $2,000,000 buyout)

Joe Mays : 4-year, 20 million (Twins declined option on 2006 for $8+ million)

Corey Koskie : 2-year, 7.9 million (2003-2004)

Jacque Jones : 2-year, 6.1 million (2003-2004)

Every contract besides the Mays one has been a pretty good contract. He avoided arbitration with Jones and Koskie for a decent rate for each of them. Anyone wish we had him when we were negotiating with Kearns/Pena?

After impressing the Twins front office after going 17-13 with a 3.16 ERA in 2001, Joe Mays signed the $20 million, four-year contract. He only won 18 games since that time. Mays missed part of the 2002 season and the entire 2004 season following Tommy John Surgery and hasn't been the same since, finishing last season in the bullpen 6-10 with a 5.65 ERA. Although to Krivsky's defense, the Mays contract seemed pretty reasonable at the time considering the season he had in '01 and that he was just 25 years old.

Re: Krivsky's signings

Not that $5 mil a year is particularly bad, but from a quick glance Mays was hit lucky in '01. Had a horrible k/9 rate, et cetera. In hindsight that one (career) year with a low WHIP was likely anomalous. He was young and had just put up similar numbers in AAA the year before though.

The low k rate would have scared me a bit.

Blame the bad ones on Ryan

I would like to see him get Dunn's LTC finished as soon as possible. You'd think that a contract similar to the one he signed with Jones could be in the works for Kearns or Pena.
