Dean Taylor: The Reds primary negotiator the last two years!?!?

A little blurb from one of Marc's columns:

http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs....602090323/1027

Taylor, who has been the primary negotiator in many of the Reds' deals the last two seasons, said the staff will continue to focus on its most pressing issue - the impending Adam Dunn arbitration case. With an arbitration hearing scheduled to take place a week from Friday in St. Petersburg, Fla., the Reds need to determine how they will proceed with their power-hitting first baseman, and Krivsky's introduction will come almost immediately.

Taylor said the front office staff will have a conference call today with the Los Angeles-based lawyers set to argue the Reds' case against Dunn if a hearing is necessary.

"We need to bring Wayne up to snuff on the negotiations and talk a little bit about the case," Taylor said." I think he'll probably make a decision on how he wants to handle the negotiations going forward."

Why surprised?

Wagner did it for Howsam and Wayne did it for Terry Ryan.

Not surprised, just that he seems like a bad choice looking at his time in Milwaukee.

Chances are he did it in Atlanta too.

Since Wayne did this for years with the Twins I'm wondering if he might take over the situation with Dunn personally.

If he GM is smart he stays out of this stuff and hands it to an underling --it's the owners call and the day to day grinding is a waist of his time --couple that with relationships getting frayed....there's no good reason for the GM to do it.

I wonder if the Dunn arbitration case is the only reason reason Taylor is being kept around. I have no problem with Krivsky canning Kullman in the name of "housecleaning," but am curious why he wouldn't 86 a guy who has nothing positive on his resume since before Milwaukee.

Yeah, so far the "housecleaning" moves (outside of the DanO canning) seem "easy"--low cash involvement, final year of the contract stuff. If Castellini REALLY means business he'll can and eat the contracts of guys who'll hurt the Reds severely in the near and far term--Allen, Taylor, Milton, Womack, Aurilia. So far, nuthin'.

Cast needs to clear 10 ton deadfall, not break out the handheld Black & Decker weed trimmer. They call it the path of least resistance for a reason.

Yeah that Womack contract... that'll hurt for at least a decade.

Some folks have to stay and run the office, the fact that Taylor is around might not last... but less then a month in to the new ownerships reign is a little soon to fret and moan over everybody on an enemy list.

If Castellini really knows what he's doing, he'll take care of Allen and let Krivsky decide how to handle the players and staff he inherited. It would be nice if he lets Krivsky know that eating bad contracts is a viable option, sure, but I don't want him making those decisions unilaterally.

Nothing occurs in a vacuum. Womack cutting into EE's time or god forbid Lopez's time if say Lopez has a rough April--that stuff lingers. Exhibit A: Rich bleepin' Aurilia.

True, but if Kullman is replaceable aren't the rest of the yahoos we have on board?

Nor does everything happen in the 2 1/2 weeks that you first end up in the office.

Womack doesn't play much SS anymore and never has played 3rd, I'll save my player handwringing for next month myself.

Sometimes the vaccum isn't plugged in.

Well, some of them actually have off season work to do.

You have to have a transition period, this isn't the days of the stripped down DeWitt staff of 6, this is a BUSINESS too, and you don't jettison all the workers before you know which stall to avoid in the men sroom.

So is every concern I express (which are almost always based on solid historical SOP for the Reds) "handwringing?" I'm right just as often as I'm wrong about the Reds' woeful ways. Womack's presence is a problem, so is Aurilia's, so is Milton's. I don't need to make up chimeras in my head when the real things are right in front of me with MLB contracts.
