Cardinals marketing effort

Involves fake vandalism of area billboards...

Ad firm hatched plan for Redbird heist
By Shane Graber
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Monday, Feb. 20 2006

ST. LOUIS

Maybe the so-called heist stirred up our Cardinal pride, and that's what did us in.

Last week's brazen, um, "theft" of a dozen 12-foot tall Cardinals cutouts from six area highway billboards over the weekend shocked people. It's those Cubs fans, some figured. They're behind this.

Nobody panic. The Cardinals are safe.

What started out as the great Cardinals caper of 2006 turned out to be a
scripted campaign put on by Schupp Co., a local advertising agency. Local TV and radio stations ate it up. The Post-Dispatch's Web site, STLToday.com, ran a photo and short story on its home page Monday.

Re: Cardinals marketing effort

If they did this in Cincinnati and people stole cutouts of Gapper, the Reds fan base would be dancing naked in the streets with glee.

Somebody in Tampa kidnapped Andres Reiner, and it took the papers two weeks to notice.

Yeah, but they'd still get the same press.:
