Re: 2006 MLB "Turn Back The Clock" Games

The Braves are wearing their 70's style uniforms that Hank Aaron use to wear. The Tampa Bay Devilrays are wearing uniforms that say Tarpons.

That would be the 1992 Cincinnati Reds, who abandoned the pullovers for the start of the 1993 season. They were the last team to do so. Here's something from the Dressed To The Nines site. If you're into baseball uniforms at all, this site is a MUST...

Pull-over jerseys (shirts without buttons, laces or fasteners of any kind) were used sporadically during the 19th century, but it is doubtful they were ever adopted by a major league club. The style first appeared in the big leagues on July 16, 1970, when the Pittsburgh Pirates unveiled their brand new ballpark, Three Rivers Stadium. At the same time, the club unveiled brand new uniforms that featured the buttonless pull-over jersey. The revolutionary double-knit duds also were the first made from polyester and the first to feature beltless pants. The bold new look proved quite a success, with nearly ever major league club soon following suit. The pull-over jersey style lasted until 1993, when the Cincinnati Reds became the final team to return to the button-down style.
Here are some pictures from the A's - Giants game...

...and some from the Braves - Rays game...

Sweet pictures. I hope Reds do something on that July 2nd game vs Tribe. Says something on the sked about a vintage game after? Anyone have any idea what that is all about.

found this on the reds' website...sorry if it has already been posted, but it applies here as well...

All-American Vintage Baseball Weekend
July 1-2

The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum celebrates America with a vintage-baseball extravaganza! The original Reds, the 1869 Red Stockings, are the stars during this fun and family-friendly weekend at the Reds Hall of Fame.

Kids will love meeting Red Stockings players and learning to pitch and field the old-fashioned way. They'll check out children's toys from the 19th century, and even try to make a 19th-century baseball. Plus, how about posing for their own 1869 Red Stockings-style baseball card, in a Red Stockings uniform, personalized with their names, positions and other vital statistics? They're free with admission (photos will be offered for two hours before the Reds game on both Saturday and Sunday; limit one per family).

Sunday will give Reds fans a chance to see vintage baseball in action! Stick around after the Reds-Indians game for a three-inning showdown between the Red Stockings and the Cincinnati Buckeyes on the field at Great American Ball Park. How better to celebrate America and its favorite pastime on this Fourth of July weekend? Play ball!

Regular admission prices apply.
