Royals DFA Steve Andrade (check out these numbers)

http://fantasybaseball.rotoworld.com...e=171900&id=64

Royals designated RHP Steve Andrade for assignment.
Unbelievable. First Shane Costa over Aaron Guiel and Chip Ambres and now Steve Stemle over Andrade and Joel Peralta. Either of the alternatives would have been superior. Andrade has awesome minor league numbers and was the best pitcher of the group this spring, and Peralta has the most major league success and arguably the best stuff of the group. Stemle, on the other hand, is an obvious 13th or 14th pitcher. He's nice to have around as Triple-A depth, but if he's beginning the season on the major league roster, the organization is doing something wrong. Or everything wrong, in the case of the Royals. Maybe the three hits allowed and 16 Ks in 11 spring innings will cause some team to claim Andrade off waivers.

Why has he been in AA for 3 seasons when he has done so well each season...

That's a good question, but it appears to have only been 2 seasons. When I looked at it again, the baseball cube had his 2004 season listed twice in the stats. I corrected it.

Edit, nope, you were right, three seasons...2 in the Anaheim organization and one in the Toronto organization. That doesn't make sense.

If the Royals were smart they wouldn't be the royals.

Re: Royals DFA Steve Andrade (check out these numbers)

Andrade comes with a slightly above average fastball that is complemented with a funky delivery and a very nasty slider(his out pitch). He is not a power arm but would seem to be a better option than wasting innings on a guy like Rick White.

I for one am bothered by the 4 "very old" guys in the pen. White was never any good but when older players hit the wall it usually comes fast and hard, especially with guys who are relying on locating marginal stuff in the first place.

I won't try to defend the Royals' decision except to say maybe it's because the guy's 28 years old. I don't know--just doing my best to understand the Royal worldview.
