Anyone know if Gruler is ever going to pitch again? Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

Re: Gruler?

Likely to pitch, doubtful he will ever have success after all the surgeries.

Re: Gruler?

Last year his velocity had sunk to the mid-eighties, I think, which is why he didn't actually get activated. It was still only a year or so post-surgery, so more should have returned by now. We can hope.

Does a year off due to injury count toward Rule 5 elegibility?

does it matter? (I believe missing seasons dues to injury does push it back)

Yes. Rule 5 eligibility is determined simply from the time the player was drafted, not his "service time". But I think minor-league free agency may be determined from service time the way major-league FAs are.

I'm pretty sure about the first part, a little less sure about the second.

Every time I see Scott Kazmir show up in the box scores, I shed a tear.

That's what a lot of us have thought for a while. Can you give any more details, or is it still not time for that?

Hey, I should mention- I might get to see Bubba pitch this year in Portland. Where'd the Padres put him?

Can't argue there... unless you're talking about the 1970s.
