The OFFICIAL Best-Record-in-Baseball thread!!!!!

I guess run-differential is really important.....go figure.

Cardinal announcers are making HUGE deal out of a meaningless Pujols HR with the Cards down 8-2. Tells you what they think is important.

Anyway, 16-7 is pretty unbelieveable for a team with the worst defense and the worst pitching in baseball......again....go figure.

I started this thread to see how everybody feels about the current team and their record. All comments are welcome.

From Yahoo:
"The crowd of 32,089 fans included 9,756 who bought tickets at the gate before the game, a sign of growing interest in the Reds."

If we can go 9 games over .500 for the rest of the year...we win 90 games. We are half way there in freekin' April...wow!

Does this mean we're not leading in the Wild Card anymore?

Re: The OFFICIAL Best-Record-in-Baseball thread!!!!!

It's just fun to see winning baseball back in Cincy again, warts and all. The nice part is that there are signs that some manner of success is sustainable in that Harang, Arroyo and Claussen are legit starters, and Coffey/Mercker/Weathers are competent in the pen. Add in a deep offense, and we can certainly entertain hope that they can make a run toward .500 or better and maybe even be Wild Card factors late enough in the year to keep interest.

And...having EE and Phillips on this team, along with Lopez and Dunn of course, makes one borderline giddy about the foreseeable future. Not to mention a GM who has a clue. All good things.

just play .500 ball and we are at 90 wins. that is kinda scary to think about.

Re: The OFFICIAL Best-Record-in-Baseball thread!!!!!

weathers scares me as a closer, despite converting most of his opportunities...williams scares me as a starter...dunn, lopez and encarnacion scare me in the field...i'd like to see management acquire another top pitcher...open up the purse strings while we're still in the hunt...act now, not later...i'm certainly enjoying it while it lasts...

Milton/Williams are the weak link right now. Weathers has been good. Not phony good like Graves (perfect on save opp. but always cuts it close.) Weathers overall has been strong.

Re: The OFFICIAL Best-Record-in-Baseball thread!!!!!

A slopball-groundball pitcher like Weathers is probably more suited to GAB than a 94 mph power closer. Keeping the ball at or below the knees is the key to GAB pitching.

Re: The OFFICIAL Best-Record-in-Baseball thread!!!!!

What is most in the Reds favor this year is the lack of high quality NL teams. When you look at the Reds and compare them to other teams like Houston, New York, St Louis, Atlanta, and Chicago, the only teams that really scare you are New York and St Louis. The wild card is Clemons and whatever moves may happen at the deadline. Scary thing is with this team is, no Junior in the last 10 games. Add in Griffey, execute a trade for a starter and/or reliever, and this team can compete all year long in this weak NL.

not quite right...I said we have to go another 9 games over .500 to win 90 games. We are already half-way there. 90-72 is 18 games over .500
