scary quote

Not much to say about this, maybe I'm being nitpicky, but I don't like this quote at all. How does everyone feel about this?

"I knew a fastball was coming, and I knew it was going to be all or nothing," Dunn said. "I either open the game up or people yell at me for swinging at a bad pitch, but it worked out."

Re: scary quote

I don't see the big deal, he's saying he knew what was coming and he was going to hammer it or miss, not saying that's what he does all the time..just then when he knew what was coming

IMO of course.

Considering his high OBP, the comment is fine with me.

Re: scary quote

Personally, I think in general, we read too much into these kind of quotes. The man has been asked a question, and has to say something. But we have no way of knowing if the writer is providing the entire quote ... or how strongly the speaker feels about what he's saying. Or even the context in which the question was asked.

Re: scary quote

Seems pretty straightforward to me. And spot on. He's either the hero or half of RedsZone (and most of the talking heads on WLW) are complaining (again) cause he K's too much.

Re: scary quote

I see plate discipline as a little bit more than swinging at hittable strikes and letting all balls go by. Plate discipline seems to be more about understanding and recognizing pitches one can hit hard against those one cannot. A 2-0 count is a "hitter's count" and if you guess fastball, which it was also mentioned that the pitch was slightly off the plate, and it is a pitch you can handle and drive, you jump on it. He did. And if he missed it, I don't think he would have gotten yelled at for swinging at such a pitch.

Dunn seems to be a guess hitter so this makes since.

Yeah well, Adam also said he's sometimes the worst player in the league. I hope that means he can stand to hear brutal honesty without losing all confidence in his abilities.

The only thing that bothers me about the quote is that he is actually thinking about it.

Just play Adam Dunn, don't think or listen to anyone except your hitting instructor.

Re: scary quote

I think alot of quotes are given without much thought, and are given way too much importance. I think the most boring part of sports news is player interviews.

Players enjoy speaking to the media about as much as I like one-on-ones with my boss.... Just saying anything to end the interview

Re: scary quote

Re: scary quote

I don't know for sure, but I think penantboundreds might have been alluding to this part of the quote... "people yell at me for swinging at a bad pitch".

Now, I realize that I'm speculating, but gee, no else on this board EVER does that, right?

Maybe "people" do yell at him when he swings at a bad pitch... and maybe they should stop doing that. Maybe he's trying harder not to do that and just maybe it may be contributing to his most recent slump.

Just maybe.

Just maybe, "people" should let Adam Dunn continue to do what he does best.

No kidding.

Thank god they don't get paid for what's between their ears. "Well, I tried to pull the trite ball and it cliched off the hackneyed foul pole...."
