Do Pitchers Have A WBC Hangover - Wash. Post
I found this in today's Cincinnati Post, from the Washington Post originally.

Re: Do Pitchers Have A WBC Hangover - Wash. Post
The WBC needs to go away. The investments franchises have in these players and teams are forced to allow their guys to play is just another farce led by the car salesman. I'm surprised they didn't have the car lot plastic pennants lining the stadiums that the games were played in, complete with air compressor man's arms waving to and fro outside the gates.

Re: Do Pitchers Have A WBC Hangover - Wash. Post
Junior's injury notwithstanding, the Reds relative lack of participants in the WBC could well be a factor in their success thus far.
I think the big-picture reasoning behind the WBC is sound. MLB stands to make tons of money from international merchandising and broadcast rights if it can make itself more prominent on an international stage. With that in mind, it was probably for the best that the U-S-A didn't W-I-N the inaugural event. And I agree with the notion in the article that the logistics and the scheduling need work. |
