Report: Royals offer GM job to Braves' Moore
Report: Royals offer GM job to Braves' Moore
ESPN.com news services The Royals are looking for Allard Baird's successor at general manager, even as he continues to fill the role in Kansas City. The job has been offered to Braves assistant Dayton Moore, the Kansas City Star reported Saturday, and the team has other candidates in mind if Moore does not accept the job. Moore, according to the paper, won't take the job unless he has complete control of personnel matters. The 39-year-old Wichita, Kan., native is Atlanta's director of player development. He has worked for the Braves since 1994. Should negotiations fail, the Royals could move on to ex-Phillies GM Ed Wade or ex-Tigers and Padres GM Randy Smith, the Star reported. The Royals (11-35) are mired in one of their worst seasons ever, and rumors of Baird's demise have floated for weeks. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2460335

Take it Dayton...the thought of those poor baseball fans in KC having endured so much and then having Ed Wade foisted on them is too much to bear...

11-35, that's just shockingly bad.
Can they lose 121?

They will lose until David Glass decides that making a profit isn't worth being the subject of public ridicule...

The Royals should hire DanO. He seems like he'd be right up their alley. Though maybe Chuck Lamarr is angling for that gig.
I'd be shocked if Moore took that job. Supposedly he's intelligent. Jim Hendry's not long for the Second City and Bill Bavasi's recently been seen running from the Sword of Damacles through the Pike Place Market. Got to figure the new ownership in D.C. will be hiring it's own GM as well.

I have been thinking about the K.C. job lately and I wonder if the Royals just went gonzo and got Rob Neyer and Bill James together and told to them that they would have carte blanche to build the Royals back up however they please. I know it would never happen but if they were offered the gigs there I wonder if they would accept?

Re: Report: Royals offer GM job to Braves' Moore
Isn't it odd that KC has a version of the baseball manhatten project (i've heard it referred to as the kansas city mafia) in their own backyard, yet, as far as i know, have never come close to using any of the knowledge. James, Neyer, Rany J, Sickels, Namee, JoPo, Baker, etc....all right there in the backyard ready to lend a hand (?) ---at this point, they might as well all live in Alaska. Does anyone in the organization recognize the potential there? Did they even know it was around?
I can understand them not using them now--prolly too expensive and way too head strong for the Glass family--but you'd have thought over the years that when that many smart people live in your own backyard you'd tap into that knowledge base once in a while....just strikes me as odd. |
