A WHIP of 1.50? Let the below-average pitching continue. Hopefully he doesn't put up some smoke and mirrors numbers and get himself a call-up. Would not be good.

The numbers in that line aren't so terrible as to rule out a callup later. Hopefully, Krivsky has a plan to get Mays back on track.

Sorry to sound pessimistic but Mays has not recovered his pre-surgery stuff. He is a great guy and the Twins invested a lot of money and hope in him and he never regained his stuff from his one great year. This is a favor conferred by Krivsky.

It's one start. He isn't going to replace anyone on the Reds roster, certainly not a starter. After he works out some kinks in Louisville, he could extend his career ala Greg Swindell in relief.

The Reds need some depth at AAA that has some experience, and has tasted success. Mays is both.

Its one start.

You're absolutely right. I think everyone around here just assumes the FO is going to pull everybody up from AAA. I think he makes a lot of sense down there to see if he can recover his form. This one start was fair (some good, some bad) and lets see if we can build on it.

I tried looking at the Bats website to see who the pitching coach is down there now, but I couldn't find it. Who's working with the pitchers now?

The plan w/ Mario was to have him be a temp pitching coach there to get a taste of pitching coach life and see how he likes it. He got his taste and now he is going to be a roving minor league coach to help work on guys change ups.

I'm not sure if this means that Mario didn't like the daily grind, or time away from home, if he said he loved it, but only really wanted to do it full time on the major league level, or like it, but had other commitments that he could never agree to be the full time pitching coach in Louisville for the complete season.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I've seen anything about how the Red's like the way he did during his month+ stint in AAA. There are many unanswered questions, it would be nice to see a long interview and get the full story behind Mario. It sounded like the club liked what he did, but that could have just been fluff. Perhaps they thought they were wasting him in AAA, and he'd be much better suited roving around helping Homer a bit here, Woods a bit there, Cuerto some, coming up to the bigs to work w/ EZ, etc....

Mays was really shaky at first, giving up both runs on a two-run single following a couple of walks in the first inning. He then got into a jam in the second, too, and allowed the leadoff man to reach in the third, fourth, and fifth. But he finished strong.

Pawtucket has a reasonably solid lineup, too, with Dustin Pedroia (who was 3-for-3 with a walk), Hee Seop Choi, and Adam Stern all batting near the top. Enrique Wilson, Ken Huckaby, Trent Durrington, and Ron Calloway have all played in the bigs as well.

With the way Milton and EZ are pitching, he sure can't come up as a starter. If they want to replace White with him, then give it a try.

Is that his role now? If that's the case, then I actually like that situation much better. Trying to help out a bunch of 25 year old potential fringy majors leaguers is a waste if he's that good at teaching a changeup. If he could teach the changeup to some of the power arms of the system, Bailey being the best example, like he was able to teach Todd Coffey, he's a huge asset to the organization.

Curious to know...Ruhle is out for treatment. Hume is working as the interim Pitching Coach...is it me or does he seem to be doing a pretty darn good job?

Who is working with our BP and would a change in the coach there do anything?
