Great Stan Frischberg song: "Van Lingle Mungo"
I was listening to a CD of Baseball's Greatest Hits and it had the great Stan Frischberg song "Van Lingle Mungo", a song whose lyrics consist solely players names. Here's a lingo to the lyrics:
http://www.baseball-almanac.com/poet...glemungo.shtml If you go to Yahoo Music and type in the name, there is a link to a sample of the song. Fun little number, a 50's style jazz song. |

Re: Van Lingle Mungo
I love that song.
There are several former Reds among the names. The ones I am positive about are: Eddie Joost Johnny Vander Meer Barney McCosky Frenchy Bordagaray Ernie Lombardi Anyone know of any others? |

Right.
Ed Kennedy a top-notch sports radio guy of the 50's said that Frenchy was the only guy he could recall who had facial hair of any kind. |

Re: Van Lingle Mungo
I surprises me that there weren't more players with moustaches during the late 30's and 40's since they were common place among actors during that period.

Re: Van Lingle Mungo
Great song. BTW, it's Dave Frishberg, not Stan Frischberg; you're probably getting Stan Freberg mixed in there somehow. Anyway, Frishberg did another song called "Dodger Blue" which consists of the names of old LA Dodgers. I have both these songs on CD, and I wish I could upload them for all of you, but it's just so darned illegal.
Another great Frishberg song: "My Attorney Bernie". Just sayin'...

Re: Van Lingle Mungo
I remember hearing that song on an HBO special back in the early '80s. They showed pictures and baseball cards of the players as their names came up in the lyrics.
