Freel and Coffey
first, Freel. how could anyone want to trade this guy. now i understand he cant play full time or he doesnt play as well, but all he does is help us win. whether it be with defense, offense, base running. beg of the game or the end. he just makes us better
as for coffey, he seems to be throwing the ball better than ever right now, but getting hit a lot more. ive noticed his fastball is at 95 right now, where i think it used to be more times than not a little lower with some sink and run on it into righties. could he be over throwing it thinking he has to since he became a closer |

1) Everyone likes to play armchair GM and ponder up trades. 2) Freel's value to other teams could be pretty high. The guy is cheap, plays hard, and produces very well in his role. If a GM knows what he is doing, Freel is the type of player people would overpay for.

As for Coffey I don't know if he's over throwing or not but he is definetly getting the ball up in the stike zone something he wasn't doing earlier this year. But it's only been two bad outings (of course they were in a row) so I think he can have a day off tomorrow and he'll come back the next day ready to go, hopefully closing a game.

Re: Freel and Coffey
I think it's baloney to say Freel wears down. He goes in a slump, like half of this team did and "he's worn out". In the meantime, if Dunn goes 0-20 or Kearns does, he's just in a slump. Freel played everyday for years trying to make it to the majors, so why is it when he gets in a bit of a slump, it's because he's run down and needs all these days off? I just don't think that makes real sense. I know he does a fine job as a utility player but as a starter with 1 day off per week, I think he would be fine over the course of the year.

Re: Freel and Coffey
Coffey may be trying too hard since being dubbed the closer per Narron.Don't know why at least the catcher didn't come out and try to settle him down with 2 outs and a 3-0 count on batter.

Re: Freel and Coffey
Coffee may be too young for the closer role I think. But Stormy's not doing much better right now. So I'm not really sure what I'd do in Narron's position. As for Freel, I like him in the role where he platoons at different positions, starting four or so games a week. I don't know if he is nessicarily getting worn down playing everyday, but I do think, for whatever reason, he's better as a spot starter.

Re: Freel and Coffey
This team needs to find some BP help. Narron also needs to go with who is hot in key situatioins. It seems as though earlier in the year Coffey was money and now he is struggling. Also earlier in the year Hammond was horrible and has bad as this sounds right now he is probably the most reliable pitcher out of the Pen. Since Merker came off the DL he has been horrible. And why is Rick White still here??
Its a good thing the starters are pitching a lot of innings so far this year because the BP is flat out awful right now.

Tackleberry needs to stick to firearms...not baseball. He gets lit up every time, lately.
