Who would you compare Stubbs to?

Which MLB player would you compare Stubbs to?

I would go with Torri Hunter. Both guys play amazing defense, and have plus speed. Hunter hits for above average power, and K's at a pretty high rate. From the scouting reports I have it seems as Stubbs could turn into a Torii Hunter type player.

A slightly faster version of Mike Cameron.

Cameron's not a bad comp, and if Stubbs turns out to be that player, that's fine with me.

I don't know...if you hope for Cameron (who is slowly turning into a journeyman) with the #8 pick in the draft then there has to be others out there with more upside.

I've read that Stubbs has one of the higher ceiling's in the draft.

Keep in mind, this is a pretty weak draft.

And im not buying the Tim Linecum/Roy Oswalt comparisons one bit. Oswalt was unheard of on draft day, and Linecum was overworked by Washington. I don't think Oswalt has a funky delivery either.

If he can hit. And if he pans out, that's great and I'll be happy. But that pick should have been used on pitching.

No matter what? Nonsense. The Reds have needs throughout their system.

This system is void of any talent, not just pitching.

By most reports, Stubbs has the highest ceiling of any position player in this draft. That doesn't mean he's going to achieve it. Cameron's more of a middle-ground comp of what I expect rather than hope. Of course, there's the worst case comp of Reggie Taylor, but... barf.

I'd rather be pitching rich than hitting rich.

Re: Who would you compare Stubbs to?

reds44, I highly doubt that is what we did. Otherwise we wouldnt have taken about 75% of our picks.

How can you say this without having even the slightest knowledge of the Reds draft board? This isn't the NFL draft, players ratings differ widely depending on each team's board. You act like there was a sure fire best pick available for the Reds throughout these picks and they passed, simply not true.

Re: Who would you compare Stubbs to?

They took a guy with a 4+ ERA and a 1.48 WHIP with their second pick. Nowhere that I could find was he mentioned anywhere going anymore near where he went.

Stubbs is a prototype Twins guy. Speed and defense.
