Re: Discuss Reds 2006 Reds Draft picks here
I'll start it off by pasting my question from page 13 of the ongoing draft thread:
So...reading between the lines on everyone's unhappy comments, it appears that Stubbs is a defensive whiz with a good bat who Ks a lot and a college pitcher could have helped and helped soon. Looking at WK in his first draft, with one of the thing's he says he looks for is defensive prowress, should we assume that part of the appeal of Stubbs was his glove? |

Stubbs.
Thought we could have done better, but a pick that I won't lose sleep over. |

I too would rather have selected a college power arm, but this will do.

I would have prefered a College pitcher however I can accept Stubbs. I just hope his bat comes around and that he really is a gold glove type fielder.

There are good arms available, so I see no point in throwing dirt on this draft.
Stubbs is an intriguing, albeit puzzling pick given the dearth of pitching in the organization. Hopefully, some good starters will get picked at #52 and #84. |

If he's an Academic All-American why wasn't he tutoring Sam Lecure.
If he was a "real" teammate, he would have taken a few tests for him.

Last 3 #1 picks from the Lone Star state. We've got a bunch of guys the Astros want.

Re: Discuss Reds 2006 Reds Draft picks here
I guess now you just hold your breath and hope he makes the transition to wood bats smoothly without losing his ability to hit. Scouts had questions about this kid's power using aluminum, so I'm not exactly optomistic about what happens when he gets regular lumber in his hands.
Maybe I'm a bad fan, but I just can't get excited about guys like Jay Bruce or, now, Drew Stubbs -- It reeks of Austin Kearns, Adam Dunn and a pitching staff of dynamite v. 2.0.

Re: 2006 Official Reds Draft Selections
I hope it works out but a lot of signs point to a kid who won't hit enough to be an everyday player in the majors
