Ryan Wagner

was apparently hit hard again tonight. One inning, two runs, three hits.

I really wonder what is going on here. Have the Reds tested Wagner for injury? Have they considered shutting him down for awhile? Is he working with a special instructor? Has he just lost it?

I hope the organization has seriously focused on this. He showed great promise earlier in his career.

Re: Ryan Wagner

Remember he was shut down last season because of ineffectiveness and questions about his shoulder. Nothing was done to it except a strengthening program. I agree Kc61, I suspect labrum troubles.

Re: Ryan Wagner

Wagner's outing might not have been quite as bad as the line looks. The first hitter he faced bunted his very first pitch for a base hit. Then he gave up a double to a .340 hitter. From there, it went sac fly, putout, K.

Then he was yanked after giving up a leadoff single. Mike Venafro came in and let the runner on first score, so he was charged with the second run.

I'm not trying to be a Wagner apologist, but before this game he'd made some tentative steps towards improvement, cutting his ERA from the 8 range down to the low sixes.

Re: Ryan Wagner

His ERA is at 6.49 after tonight's game.

Meanwhile Michalak went 6 IP and gave up 0 ER (3 un-earned). His ERA is at 3.27.

Re: Ryan Wagner

If Wagner would improve a trade offer to another team then I hope Krivo throws him in, kid needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Re: Ryan Wagner

I am not speaking as an expert, but I always thought Wagner lacked confidence. It seemed to me, he lost it way too easily - he was a pitcher who, when he fell apart, he would fall apart hard.

Re: Ryan Wagner

I've always gotten that impression too from him, both at Louisville and in Cincy. He also seems like a guy who speeds up when he's in trouble, which is a bad thing IMO.

Re: Ryan Wagner

He seems to throw his slider 90% of the time and never can locate it. Very frustrating to watch.

Doesn't he have any heat? I thought he threw 95+ in college.

Oh well. I think he needs a change of scenery in an new organization. I think he still has the chance to make it somewhere.

With that said, is it true that the Angels gave up on both Bobby Jenks and Derrick Turnbow?

OUCH!
