Re: Redszone mock draft?

chili brings up a good point. If you were a highly-coveted college junior pitcher, would you tell the Rockies not to even think of drafting you?

I would.

OBM, I dont know how much you are around right now, but do you think that every few picks you could update the top list with who has taken who?

If I was advising a young pitcher, that is what I would do. If I'm Tommy Tanzer, Matt Sosnick or Scott Boras, I'm steering my client towards San Diego and Los Angeles.

I wouldn't doubt that it hasn't happened already over the years.

But I think that after another couple of years with Aaron Cook, Jason Jennings and Jeff Francis, and the much publicized humidor, that stigma will slowly start fading away.

Chili has strong armed me into taking the A's

I'm currently working on channeling Bobby Mattick to help me with the draft.

Re: Redszone mock draft?

I liked that Linecum pitched in the Pac 10. so, I selected the short RH over the tall LH.

I wonder if I reverse Grulered myself.

I agree with what M2 said earlier about college junior pitchers IN GENERAL, but I don't think Miller will play holdout games with the Rockies. Having watched interviews with him, you can almost hear regret for having gone to college. He was in the same H.S. class as Delmon Young and Chad Billingsley. He thinks he's as good as them (maybe he's right), and sees them in Triple-A now, a hair from the majors and thinks he could be there right now. Realistically, he won't reach triple A now until '07 or '08, and that's barring setbacks.

In other words, he's itching to play pro ball right now.

He's cocky, which can be good. But he sure looks to me like the best talent and the most likely pitcher to succeed in the draft. So unless the Rockies uncover something negative, I'd take him at 2 if he's avail (like Jim did).

I tell ya. If the Reds draft a HS pitcher again I'm going to be mad.

Re: Official Redszone mock draft thread

You know the people drafting for the Reds have no clue, so they will surely draft for immediate need instead of the best player.

No worries. There is a negative chance of me drafting a high school pitcher. I made a comment in another thread a few weeks ago that I would rather stick my "package" in a blender rather than watch the Reds select a HS pitcher in the first round of this draft.

2844 is on the clock...(I shot him a PM to remind him)

TRF, you're killing me. I had already decided I was going to take Tim Lincecum if he fell to the Reds. But alas, you ruined my plans!
