6/21 Minor League Update/The Joey Votto Show

Chattanooga is up 3-0 in the 4th. Joey Votto is 1-2 with a HR, his 14th on the year, and 3 RBI. How good is this kid? He is dominating the Southern League right now.
Edward Valdez has allowed 2 hits through 4 innings and struck out 5

I wonder if they'll bump him up after the break (or after the futures game). Right now there are a couple of 30+ yr. olds manning 1B in Louisville.

Has anyone seen where Milton Looo or Robbie Nickols have been assigned to?

Lookouts Make It Two Straight Beating Carolina Wednesday, 4-2
Reds' Top Prospect, Homer Bailey, Pitches Thursday Night
by Tim Evearitt
posted June 21, 2006

On the first day of summer, a large afternoon crowd of 4,776 (mainly children) saw the Lookouts defeat the Carolina Mudcats, 4-2.

Eddy Valdez (4-3) threw six innings giving up two runs on six hits. He struck out five hitters and walked none.

Carolina’s Jose Garcia (1-1) pitched six innings. He gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits; Garcia walked a batter and struck out five Lookouts.

The Mudcats out hit the Lookouts 7-to-6. Javon Moran went 2-for-4; Joey Votto was 1-for-3 with a homer and three RBI; Noocher Varner was 1-for-3, with a home run.

First baseman Votto continues his torrid hitting for Chattanooga. In the first inning, Votto hit a long three-run home run over the right center field fence. He leads the Southern League with 14 homers, and is tied for runs batted in at 46. Votto is hitting .315.

In the top of the fifth the Mudcats scored their first runs off Valdez on Angel Molina’s double to left center field.

Varner hit a solo homer (his eighth) in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning, Luis Bolivar hit a two-out triple off the left field wall but was stranded when Miguel Perez popped out to second to end the inning.

With David Shafer on the disabled list, Brock Till pitched the ninth inning. He walked a batter and gave up a bloop single to Jamie Athas but retired Colina on a comebacker to the mound to end the game. Till collected his second save.

Game four of the Carolina series continues Thursday night. Game time is 7:15 p.m.

Re: 6/21 Minor League Update/The Joey Votto Show

Javon Moran seemingly gets no publicity, and I never understood why. Sure he doesnt hit for much power, but all he does is hit the ball. Since he was acquired by the Reds in 2004 he has hit .336, going 175 for 521 in a year and a half.

That's the first I've heard of this.

I agree, and I think with the success of EZ this year, you can officially lable the Cory Lidle trade as DanO's one and only truly great trade.
