Remlinger-DFA

Former Red Mike Remlinger was DFA tonight by the Braves- so the youth movement is upon us in Atlanta.

Re: Remlinger-DFA

He has a 4.03 ERA in 36 appearances this year. However he has a 2.45 against lefties and a 5.6 ERA vs. righties. IMO Narron would not use him as a LOOGY, so I wouldn't go after him. If we want a LOOGY we have Shack in AAA, no reason to trade for Remlinger.

But who knows, can he really be worse then some of the guys we have up here?

Re: Remlinger-DFA

He has been closing a few games. This might be a decent pick up.

Re: Remlinger-DFA

For some reason, I think there are a ton of teams that are going to be going after him. He kind of sounds defeated though. That happens when you are let go, for any reason, from a job. He won't be unemployed long.

Quote:
ST. PETERSBURG -- At 40 years old, Mike Remlinger knows his pitching career won't last forever. Still, he was understandably disappointed after being designated for assignment after Saturday night's game at Tampa Bay.

"You've been around here long enough, you get a feel for something's gotta give, but you never really want to fully believe that it's you," Remlinger said as he emptied his locker. "I'm at that point where if someone else is interested and it fits for my desires and my family's needs, then I'll consider it. If this is the end of the road, then I'm in a lot better place handling it than I was last year at this time. You get to the point where you start to realize that ability-wise, day in and day out, it's not what you expect. There's been stretches where it's been good and stretches where it hasn't been.

"And for what this team's going through right now, they've got other needs they need to address."

Remlinger compiled a 2-4 record and 4.03 ERA in 36 appearances for Atlanta this season, and he converted two of five save opportunities. He walked nine during that time and struck out 19. A 14-year veteran of the Major Leagues, Remlinger spent time with the Giants, Mets, Reds, Braves, Cubs and Red Sox. He fought shoulder fatigue throughout his 2005 season in Boston, leading to his release in late August.

Remlinger clawed his way into Atlanta's bullpen as a non-roster invitee this spring, marking his second stop in the city as he also played for the Braves from 1999-2002.

With many moves and even more seasons under his belt, Remlinger said he's prepared for whatever the future holds.

Even if it doesn't include baseball.

"I was obviously pleased with the opportunity, first and foremost, that was given to me, and I'm pleased with the way everything went to this point," he said. "I clear waivers on Wednesday. I'll see if the phone rings or not, and if it does, we'll figure it out from there. But if it doesn't, I'm prepared for that other end of it, too. There's a lot of things I'm looking forward to do."

The move was made to clear room on the 40-man roster for Chuck James, who is with the team already and is scheduled to be officially added to the roster Sunday before his start against the Rays.

Re: Remlinger-DFA

Time to stick a fork in him.

It's been a good run...with some thanks to Don Gullett for jumpstarting his career.

Re: Remlinger-DFA

He might be worth the look. Lord knows he can't be any worse than Mercker or Hammond.

I was thinking Burns. I can't believe he's on this team.

Re: Remlinger-DFA

If we take Remlinger can we send Hammond back to the Braves? A nice swap of 40-year olds. Even though Remlinger is better than most of our relievers we need to rid ourselves of relievers old enough to have a kid the same age as Homer Bailey.

Re: Remlinger-DFA

I say we pick him up and reunite him with his 1998 teammate Weathers. Are Gabe White and Danny Graves available? It would be just like old times. Sounds like a Leather Pants formula for success.
