Re: Reds in first place

While I'm fired up that the Reds have a share of first place, the standings today look eerily similar to the way they did four years ago today.

After the games of June 30, 2002, the Reds and Cardinals were tied for first in the Central, but the Reds had one more win and one more loss than St. Louis. The Reds record was 43-37 and the Cardinals were 42-36.

The Reds finished the 2002 season in third place in the NL Central, 19 games behind the Cardinals. The good news is, though, that what happened in 2002 has nothing to do with how things will go in '06. Just bringing it up for the sake of conversation. It may just be me (or the excitement of what happened tonight), but things just feel different this year. The 2002 season had a sort of 2001/2003/2004/2005 feel to it. This year has a 1999 feel to it.
