Hot Dog Quandary
Our contestants:
Hot Dog 1 : The ones that the vendors sell in the seats for $2.50 in the silver packet. Steamy goodness! Hot Dog 2 : The "grilled" ones that hang out with the bratwursts and smokies, available at the concession stands such as "Doggy's Dogs" et al. These babies will set you back $3.75! Now, why can't you buy a $2.50 hot dog at the concession stands? Why do I have to wait for the hot dog cuties to come around and sell me their wares from the red foam Kahn's bags? They never seem to be there when I am craving the pink tastiness... And really, what is so special about the $3.75 dogs except that they are negligibly larger (debatable) and slightly browner (sometimes)? They taste pretty much the same to me... not enough to justify the price difference methinks. Plus I like the steamed ones better anyway! Three of those dogs will set you back the same as two of the high-falutin "grilled" dogs and will fill yer belly a lot better for $7.50! Inquiring minds want to know. And yes, I have thought about this too much. |

Re: Hot Dog Quandary
I much prefer the ones the vendors bring around actually. I just hardly ever see them.
I'm with you though.

Re: Hot Dog Quandary
Ok, you got me pondering as well. With the new "4 for 48" promotion, can you get the expensive 3.75 dogs or do you get the 2.50 ones?

Re: Hot Dog Quandary
What are they charging for Kahn's Big Red Smokeys these days? Is it considered a hot dog or a smoked sausage?

Re: Hot Dog Quandary
Man, those things in the silver pockets aren't even food. I haven't been to a game in a coupla years, but my fave has always been a brat from one of the cart vendors outside the stadium.

The steamed ones work OK during the game, but you always start with a grilled dog or sausage.

It seems to me, and this is pure observation from numerous games since the opening of Great American Ballpark, that the hot dog vendors in the seats only make their way into the cheaper priced ticketed areas of the ballpark, but I honestly don't recall ever seeing them in the 500 sections. Mainly the OF, it seems to me, for the seat hot dog vendors. I hate to say it though, but I prefer the grilled to the steamed, but to each their own! |

I like the dogs you get off of the griddle mainly because you can get it all slopped up with sauerkraut or peppers and onions. Yum.

I even chased one down in the field level seats, section 111 the other day. I think those girls might think I am stalking them, but I am merely stalking the steamed goodness. |

Re: Hot Dog Quandary
That superdog they sell at the Machine Room Grill is a monster! I bet it is one pound. It is worth the price, I forget but with chips less than $5 I think.

Re: Hot Dog Quandary
I'm just delighted to see someone spell the word "quandary" correctly. It cheers my soul.
