Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

Last night's issue of Play Ball! (Dayton Dragons) had a nice interview article. It should be posted pretty soon on the website.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

Cueto has made some impressive adjustments over these three starts at the higher level. He started off in this last one struggling with control again- two of those BBs came in the first inning- but righted himself quite nicely.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

I look for Cueto to have a very good start next time out. He seems to have more control each time out, and his last outing was not bad at all.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

It's certainly encouraging that he has improved with each start in Sarasota. I too look for him to have a great next start.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

Johnny started last night and again improved. He earned his first win since the promotion. The command seems to be improving and he is now striking out batterts at the tune of 12 per 9 innings. I have updated his stats on top.

Quote:
Johnny Cueto (1-0) earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked one.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

I love his k/9 and hits/9 numbers. If he can continues to improve on his command he should start dominating in Sarasota.

Promoted Flamethrower Torches L-Tigers

By DAVID YATES
Ledger Correspondent

LAKELAND -- Twenty-yearold Dominican flamethrower Johnny Cueto tossed six dominant innings as Sarasota topped Lakeland, 6-3, in Florida State League baseball on Monday night.

A Joker Marchant Stadium crowd of 553 saw Cueto use his 90-plus mph fastball to strike out eight Tigers and walk just one. The young right-hander (1-0) won his first FSL decision in four tries.

An 8-1 record and 82 strikeouts in 76 innings had earned Cueto a promotion from Dayton in the Midwest League.

The Reds gave Cueto all the runs he would need in the first inning, tallying four times off Lakeland starter Andrew Kown (3-4). Jay Garthwaite, Cody Strait, and Trevor Lawhorn all had two-out singles in the inning. A Miguel Linares error rendered three of the runs unearned.

Jeff Frazier and Jeff Larish had the hardest hits off Cueto, but only Larish had anything to show for it, belting a line drive solo homer to right with two outs in the sixth.

Frazier made a bid for at least a double with a smash into the gap in left center in the third. Unfortunately for the FSL All-Star, Garthwaite had other ideas, leaping high off the Marchant Stadium turf after racing across the outfield.

Linares made his own spectacular play in the eighth, with a diving stop of Lawhorn's rocket down the line at third. Linares's throw across the diamond shorthopped Larish who made an equally fine play himself.

The L-Tigers will now hit the road for their longest road trip of the season, four games in St. Lucie and four in Jupiter.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

Cueto pitched a couple of nights ago. His comand seemed to be better, unfortunatly he received no run support and took the loss.

Johnny Cueto (2-1) took the loss for the Reds (18-18), giving up one run on five hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked one.
I'll update his stats on the first post

Rough night for Johnny. He gave up 6 runs in the second inning before being relieved.

Bumping up in light of his being named Reds' minor league pitcher of the year. Think he starts this year in Chattanooga?

Sounds as if there is a decent chance of that.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

There seems to be a lot of high praise right now for Cueto. After seeing him pitch live, I think it is a tad premature to have him on the fast track. He does have great stuff but is still very raw and will need time to learn the game. I do however beleive that he will at least be in Chatanooga at some point before June.

Re: Prospect Pofile: Johnny Cueto

How did we get a hold of Johnny? I am sure it was from the draft, but what year/round?
