SI Second Half Performance Stats
I was reading my newest issue of Sports Illustrated and decided to share some stats they compiled on players/teams with best/worst performances after the All-Star break. I'm not going to list them all, I'll just pull out the Reds related ones.
Over the last four seasons....increase/decrease in teams' winning percentages: Reds fifth worst in winning % falloff- .480 Before Break, .428 After Break = -.052 Decrease in winning percentage Over the last four seasons....increase/decrease in pitchers' ERA: Eric Milton at #10 in largest decrease in ERA - 5.62 Before Break, 4.82 After Break = -0.80 Decrease in ERA FYI, Complete listings for both: 5 Best winning %'s after break (Astros, Athletics, Devil Rays, Twins, Giants) 5 Worst....(Orioles, Mariners, Tigers, Mets, Reds) Top 10 Pitchers in Decreasing ERA Andy Pettitte Johan Santana Glendon Rusch Doug Davis Greg Maddux John Thomson Mike Hampton Kevin Millwood John Lackey Eric Milton Bottom 10.... Nate Robertson Woody Williams Cliff Lee Esteban Loaiza Mark Redman Tanyon Sturtze Freddy Garcia Jeff Suppan Dontrelle Willis Miguel Batista - Take what you want out of this. At least we can be optimistic that Eric Milton will pitch better from here on out!
