Fast firings

Think of any others?

The New York Islanders fired GM Neil Smith on Tuesday after six weeks on the job. Other quick-trigger moves:
MIKE PRICE
Fired as football coach at University of Alabama in 2003 before coaching a single game. News reports claimed he had paid for private dances at a topless bar in Florida.
BRYAN TROTTIER
Fired by New York Rangers GM Glen Sather in January 2003, 54 games into the season. Rangers were league's highest-paid team but were last in the Atlantic Division.
JERRY TARKANIAN
The long-time college coach was fired as coach of the San Antonio Spurs in 1992 after a 9-11 start. "I'm 62 years old," Tarkanian said. "I probably ought to be out watering the flowers."
TONY PEREZ
Fired as manager of the Cincinnati Reds less than two months into the 1993 season by rookie GM Jim Bowden, who delivered the news by telephone after a 1-6 road trip that left the team at 20-24.

WALLY BACKMAN
The Arizona Diamondbacks fired manager Backman on Nov. 5, 2004 — four days after hiring him — after press reports revealed that Backman had been arrested twice and filed for bankruptcy in the previous year.
