Cardinals Magic Number Thread

Ready for this boys and girls?

Here we are, nearing the two month mark remaining on the season, and the Reds are chasing the Cards for the Central Division Lead.

Just thought this would be as good a place as any to keep track of St. Louis' magic number.

Remember - everytime Cincinnati (or the 2nd place team should the Reds get overtaken) loses OR the Cardinals win, the number goes down.

That formula is as follows (For those keeping score at home)
Total Number of games - Wins by the 1st place team - Losses by the 2nd place team + 1

That would mean that thru the games finished on July 19th

162 - 53 - 45 + 1 = 65 with 67 games to go

Nothing more disgusting than discussing a magic number for the Cardinals in July. Come on, Jmclain. You related to George Grande?????

Why don't we start a magic number for the REDS?

I think you need to re-check your math there.. shouldn't their magic # be 65?

Ha - you would be correct sir. There is a "it's takes a real engineer to screw up an easy math problem" joke in there somewhere.

Isn't this thread something that's done on the Cardinals board every year, a tradition of sorts?

Re: Cardinals Magic Number Thread

Some of the reactions in this thread are HILARIOUS

There is no such thing as a "Magic Number" to the wildcard. Not until all three division slots are clinched. And given the NL West that could be during Game 162 of the season. Thus, the Reds are chasing the Cards, with the hope that when the chase ends, if they haven't passed the Cardinals, they happen to be the best team remaining. There is nothing defeatest or rooting for the Cards in watching that. Some Reds fans will want to know as the season winds down what else needs to be done to win the Division. I happen to be one of those fans.

But hey to each his own. If you want to stick your fingers in your ears and not pay any attention to what other teams in the division are doing, please feel free to pass over this thread in the future.

Re: Cardinals Magic Number Thread

I've never advocated a thread to be closed, but I do on this one.

Just know I'll be wearing my REDS cap in St. Louis during the Mid-August series.

For good measure I'm bringing a "REDSZONE" sign to the Wednesday and Thursday games. (I'll probably not be close enough to be on TV,...behind home plate, 2nd deck.
