LaRue grounds out to third. Two down.

Freel walks on a ball thrown at his head.

The Dodgers have a great lineup...I'm not being facetious.

Every hitter has a great at-bat like the one Freel just had.

I really got lucky for tickets on Sat. It's a day game and tickets were sold out on the Reds ticket site, except for diamond seats. I got back on line late last night and wow...got 2 club seats for ticket price! They are going for over $100 on the ticket broker web sites.!!

Dunn needs to make this a 5-4 game right here.

Good at-bat by Dunn, too.

Re: 8/2/06: Dodgers @ Rojos Game Thread (Edwin and Royce in, Rich out)

Well, we have 13 outs remaining to get at least three runs, and unfortunately I have much less confidence in our ability to do that now than I did a month ago. Here's why ...

Average runs per game before the All-Star Break 5.04
Average runs per game after the All-Star Break 4.53

Average runs allowed before the All-Star Break 5.20
Average runs allowed after the All-Star Break 4.76

Since the All-Star break, the Reds had scored 77 runs while giving up 81 runs (not including tonight). It's a small sample size, but it's interesting to note that the pythag winning percentage for those run totals is .477. Over a full season, that's a 77-85 record.

Of course I like the fact that we've been giving up fewer runs (well, until last night and possibly again tonight), but I'll be honest: I'm worried about the offense now. It is true that Griffey had an unusually lousy month, but on the flip side Dunn had an outstanding month so you'd have to think those two may just cancel each other out.

Should they quit sending Freel?

I'm starting to get the feeling that Homer will be up here before long. Once Lohse puts one of these on the board on Saturday, he'll be on a plane.
