Re: Mets ink Wright
Not a good deal. Essentially what the Mets did was allow him to win arbitration for the next six years. A good deal would have both sides sacrifice something.
All the risk is on the Mets side, the best they can hope for is to break even. |

![]() Good signing though. Wright certainly has the tools and he's got no pressure on that team.

Re: Mets ink Wright
When was he due for free agency? He would have commanded a fortune, even with a couple of potential seasons that don't quite live up to this one. Happy-hitting good third basemen are not a dime a dozen. I think it's a great deal; he's obviously very good, he works hard so will hopefully be a fairly low injury risk, and the fact that he's about 12, came up through their farm system and is reportedly very good natured means a lot in the clubhouse. It's not without risk, but they've got the money so it's a risk they can afford.

Re: Mets ink Wright
So let me get this straight... When Cleveland locks up their young talent, they're smart - but when NY does it at a NY price that they can afford, they're foolish? Locking up Reyes and Wright are two great moves IMO. Talk about a good left side of the infield.

Re: Mets ink Wright
This has the potential to be the most valuable contract in the league for years to come. And a guy like Edwin should feel much better about himself.

Re: Mets ink Wright
I like the prinicipal of buying out somebody's arb years if for nothing else than guaranteed costs. However, what's the point of signing them through arb if you don't get a discount? It would be a few years before he reached the 9 million level and I doubt the years after that would make up the difference. Plus, there has to be some hesistation about giving ANY player six years, simply due to the possibility of major injury.

Re: Mets ink Wright
Can you imagine him going to arb with an MVP award in his back pocket??? (Has an arb. eligible player ever won an MVP award?)
Good sign by the Mets.
