For the Cincinnati Reds, it has been a very frustrating month. For the better part of August, the Redlegs have been begging other teams to take the Wild Card lead, but all other NL teams refuse to do so.
"It's frustrating," said a player who wished to remain anonymous. "We're busting our butts trying to give the Wild Card away, and nobody else will take it. What do we have to do? Move to the AL?" While frustration mounts in the Reds clubhouse, Jerry Narron seems to have a pretty good idea of what's going on. "I think it's clear as to what's happening," said Narron. "The Cards have been trying to give us the division all season, and we flat out refuse to take it, as you all know. Well, in reponse to that, these other teams are saying to themselves 'Well if the Reds are refusing to take the Central, why should we do them a favor and take the Wild Card when they're offering it to us?' Teams see that we won't take the Cardinals gift, and with that being the case, they want no gift from us." It is often said that it is better to give than to receive. But with the Reds refusing to receive the Central lead, and other NL teams flat out refusing to take the Wild Card as a gift in response to the Central division situation, the Reds are neither giving or receiving. |
