Bye bye Burns...hello Bausher!

Reds traded Mike Burns to the Red Sox for Tim Bausher.

Also, Reds agreed to 1-yr extension with Javier Valentin with a club option for '08. Viva le 'stache!

Nuff said. Bring him up now.

As I posted in RL, I like the Javy sighning assuming it was a reasonable amount of money. While not a world-class catcher he has a good bat when he's "on", has taken to the PH role and speaks spanish (which is worth something, a small something, but something nonetheless). I like him as a backup.

Looks like it's a minor league to minor league move. I'm guessing though that we'll see Bausher come the roster expansion, but that's strictly a guess.

I'm thinking it's more apt to be "The Dutch" around Kutztown who might call it Birdsong or in old Over The Rhine.

Andre Reed of the Buffalo Bills says Hello.

Then there was former Denver linebacker John Mobley.

That's all for now.

Re: Bye bye Burns...hello Bausher!

Interesting case, Bausher is. Drafted in the low rounds in 2001, Tim pitched badly in his pro debut and missed all of 2002 with an injury, leading to his release by Seattle. He got a contract with Milwaukee in mid-2003 after pitching in the independent leagues (actually all of one game before the Brewers pulled the trigger), pitching in Low-A and then in AA before Colorado claimed him on waivers in June 2004. He was then claimed on waivers again by Boston in December 2004 and pitched at AAA Pawtucket in 2005, going 3-2, 3.41 in 44 games. 2006 has seen him repeating with the PawSox, where he's gone 4-3, 4.91 in 37 games (two starts) with poor peripheral numbers.

Bausher must really light up the scouts' eyeballs, because not only did he work his way back into minor-league ball, he appears to have moved rather quickly until 2006, which was the first year he repeated a level. Before this season, he appeared to be a fairly decent bat-misser, although he's also been old for his levels (even if he hadn't been injured, he was 22 already when drafted).

He's now 27, about nine months younger than "Louisville Cy" Burns.
---

My take is that he's viewed as a guy with more upside than Burns but with less results. Burns is a Theo Epstein type of pitcher (BB/K ratio). Bausher is a bit of a prospect like Jason Standridge in a way, possessing of good raw stuff but short on the other components of success in some fashion.

Burns was on the 40 Man right? With Krivsky going down to the Lookouts game to watch Homer.. You think Bailey could replace Mike Burns on the 40 Man? Leaving Bausher as a minor leaguer...

This mgmt sure makes thing interesting. I can see myself in the off season coming to the zone just looking for breaking news. JL signing all but tells me LaRue probably won't be here next season.
