VORP= value over replacement player. Zero represents the value of a MLB replacement player. Does not include defense.
This is a relatively new stat meant to rate overall performance. See THIS LINK at Baseball Prospectus.

I can tell you it doesn't surprise me that LaRue is at the bottom. I don't know what VORP is but whatever it is I didn't figure LaRue would have a good one.

What I find intersting is that Junior is the least productive "regular". You can't blame it on injuries this year. Interestingly, his patience and ISO SLG aren't too far off from his norms. To me it looks like he's just not making as much contact as he used to, be it due to slower hands, bad luck, or whatever else. If he was hitting .290 his OPS would be in the .900 range. His HR/hit is still there, he's just not getting as many hits. It will be interesting to see how & if he bounces back next year -- or if perhaps were seeing the manifestion of the end of the line.

Geez, you knew LaRue was doing horrible, but according to this new stat he is doing just beyond horrible....I don't know how else to express it.

LaRue ranks 280 out of 311 ML players with 200+ PAs. (Just ahead of Miguel Cairo and just behind John Buck.)
Who is dead last, you might ask??? Abraham Nunez (-20.2 )

Vorp is based on a measurement vs your Peers at your position, so Dunn is getting measured against LF's and Phillips 2nd basemen, imagine if Phillips was at SS it would be even wider a margin.

Each player listed only at the position he appears at most (not prorated according to % of time spent at each position). If two or more positions tie for the most appearances, then he's listed at each one. |
