Let's raid the AL

...and snag as much pitching from them as possible! Seriously!

Arroyo, Lohse and SS were all mediocre to above average pitchers and have all been brilliant with us. Look at all our NL aquisitions... Maj, Bray, Cormier, Franklin... not looking very good there... (maybe there's hope for a better 2007)

Yan was alright. 3.6 ERA is decent enough.

The worst pickup was Mays who, by no surprise, was simply past any sort of prime he may have had. He was with the Royals for pete's sake!

This off season, we need to forget the NL and fill our pen and solidify our rotation with AL arms. (good arms in the AL preferably for a greater chance at success... you can't expect all mediocre arms to become another Lohse or Arroyo)

A lot of it probably has to do with the NL batters having little or no experience against these pitchers. I just hope their results stay positive after they've "seen" each NL team a few times.

It is an interesting thing, though. Who could have ever imagined the type of production we've gotten out of some of these guys? I think we especially take for granted just how surprising Arroyo has been this season.

You can definately account somewhat for that but Arroyo has maintained success for nearly an entire season in the NL with the same outstanding numbers. Lohse has only had one real scuffle. Every other outing he's been as good or better than Harang or Arroyo.

Dreaming a bit here... but assuming Arroyo and Lohse keep the pace next year, we have 3 solid guys in the rotation... All of #2 quality at least. It's been a while since our pitching has looked solid enough (with some possible depth next season) to possibly win the division for us.

Now if we can make sure our bats do their jobs as well...

I agree with JEA that it probably has a lot to do with the hitters not being familiar with some of the guys. But I also think that with the AL seemingly having so much more offensive swagger, so to speak, that pitchers might feel more at ease in the NL. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but it's my perception.

Well, it seems to work both ways, too. A lot of NL pitchers go to the AL and don't do as well.

The NL is so much easier to pitch in than the AL, starting with the lack of DH, and ending with the fact that the NL just has inferior talent (except for a select few). I agree we should continue to steal from the AL (with both pitching and hitting) because it is almost like trading major and minor league talent. An average AL player can look great in the NL (Arroyo, Lohse, etc.), but not seem that valuable to that particular AL team.... I think Krivsky knows that...

That's because the Indians are a much better team than my beloved Redlegs. They are 3rd in all of baseball in runs scored, 14th out of 30 in ERA, and have a run differential of +80.

The Reds 14th in runs scored (the offense has slipped a lot since the beginning of the year), and 18th in pitching ERA, and a run differential of -23. (Last night's game helped the run differential a lot more than it helped in the standings!)
